Introduction
• Finite element analysis is most popular application in mechanical engineering.
• FEM is based on the building complicated objects into simple blocks or dividing into
small pieces.
• This provide only approximate solution to engineering Examples.
• This has gained popularity in researcher and practitioners.
• FEM has become essential step in the design of physical model in engineering field.
• The function are defined in terms of values of field variables a specific point known as
nodes.
• These nodes a located along the element boundary.
• These nodes connect the adjacent elements.
• Finite element develops the algebraic equation by integration.

Brief  History
• FEM has combined as new field combining continum mechanics with numerical analysis
and computer systems.
• FEM concept was used in analysis of trusses, frames and circuits etc.
• The FEM was used in practice by using simple sub-division with multiple connections
[nodes].
• The term finite element was originated by Clough in year 1960.
• In the year 1943 Courant used variational methods.
• Tuner, Clough and Martin in year 1956 used stiffness.
• In 1970's FEM was applied to mainframe computers.
• In year 1980 microcomputer were used for preprocessors and postprocessor.
• FEM in 1990's were used for analysis of larger structural models.
• O.C. Zienkewicz and R.L. Taylor were first edition of book FEM.
